At about the same time that I received this word my wife Xenia had a dream of our love relationship with the Lord that really impacted her. A key in the dream was the number ’89’ to which the only adequate response would be “Hallelujah”. She had no idea what it meant. She began to seek the Lord and eventually found that in 2010 Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) falls on 8 September. Up till this point both of us had been largely ignorant of Jewish Feasts and Dates (we are still learning!). Only the revelation of the Kingdom of God that I have been preaching on for the past 18 months had begun to restore a lost love for Jerusalem, Israel and the Jewish people. She felt that Rosh Hashanah 2010, coming up on Wednesday, would be very significant for the church in New Zealand, with possible repercussions beyond into the future. The number 8 means new beginnings, resurrection, and the One new man. 9 means finality and judgment. Also Song of Solomon 8:9 is significant – “if she is a wall, we will build her with battlements of silver; and if she is a door we will enclose her with panels of cedar.”

This morning I woke up and the first thing that hit me was feeling God saying that the King Tide was coming soon. It immediately brought back to me the word that I had had those months back. I felt led to google ‘King Tide’ and found some astonishing facts that I was totally unaware of. The phrase ‘King Tide’ is only used in the ‘Great South Lands of the Holy Spirit’ – New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands. They only come twice a year, over summer and winter. The winter King Tide usually occurs at night and therefore goes unnoticed. Consequently the summer King Tide usually catches the most attention. I also discovered that there is usually a very BIG King Tide every 7 years or so – in other words a very high high high tide with very big waves. What really caught my attention was the date of the next 7 year cycle ultra high King Tide – you guessed it – 8 September 2010 on Rosh Hashanah! This King Tide is expected to last 5 days up until the 13th of September. These tides will be so high they have the possibility of flooding the North Western Motorway in Auckland.

I am not confident enough at this stage to say “Thus saith the Lord” but my spirit is leaping inside with some anticipation of what may be on the horizon. I only realized very recently a possible explanation for a huge move of the Spirit we had last year ‘out of the blue’ in Horizon Church – it fell on a Sunday only 5 days away from Rosh Hashanah.

God has also been speaking to me about correct alignment to ‘catch’ what He is sending to the Church in New Zealand (and beyond). Correct alignment of certain planets is what causes a King Tide. As a surfer I know the importance of aligning oneself for a wave. It becomes increasingly more critical proportionate to the size of a wave. At Horizon we have decided to position ourselves for a BIG ONE this Sunday. We are recognizing Rosh Hashanah; we are holding a prayer meeting to coincide with this date. Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset, Wednesday 8 September at 6:06pm. We plan to start praying from 6:00pm. We are also coming hungry and expectant to meet with God on the first Sunday following Rosh Hashanah – 12 September. Remember, this King Tide lasts until Monday the 13th!

But the bigger picture of what I am picking up is not just the period around Rosh Hashanah, but the season that is going to be birthed from 8 September 2010 onwards. I feel that a huge shift will be taking place in the Church that will have an effect on the next season and well into the future. Something is going to shift over New Zealand spiritually and in the Church Universal.

Finally, what I found even more intriguing this morning is that New Zealand music icon Neil Finn (of Crowded House) wrote a song called, you guessed it, KING TIDE. I close this article with some of the words:

Make some sense of your life, Move your hand and make a mark

And the hunger inside won’t go away and it’s starting to rise
And the longer you hide, the more you deny

And the sea rushes in, the wind is howling at your back

So what does this passage have to say about the House of God? I want to look at four things:

Firstly, in vs 12 we see the House of God was connected to heaven (by a stairway or ladder).
God’s intention for His church was never to be a disconnected group of religious people on earth, but an intimate family of sons and daughters connected with the heavenly realm. Eph 2:6 says God has raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. I believe that this is not just an academic thought to embrace, but a living reality to experience.

Secondly, in vs 16 we see that the presence of God was there.
The revelation of the Kingdom is revealing more about God’s original intent for mankind. Rom 3:23 says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God’s original intention for us was to live in His glory. 1 Thes 2:12 says we are called into His Kingdom and glory. Because His Kingdom is a glorious Kingdom (Ps 145:12) when believers begin to actively seek His Kingdom as a priority (Matt 6:33), the inevitable result is an encounter with the glory of God. Very simply, the glory of God is the “weightiness of His presence”, his goodness, having no doubt that He is in His house!!

Thirdly, in vs 17 we see it was a gate of heaven.
The Gospel of the Kingdom reveals that the main reason why Jesus came was not to take us to heaven, but to bring heaven to earth. Religion emphasizes leaving earth. In Matt 4:17 He said, “Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is near.” He did not say, “Repent, and one day you will get to heaven.” He said heaven is “near” or “at hand.” He taught us to pray specifically in Matt 6:10 for His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. And this is what being a gate of heaven is all about – the church is to pursue heaven coming to earth, not sit around waiting to go to heaven! One of the most important Kingdom principles is that we don’t have to go to heaven to experience heaven! Heaven is a reality to enjoy now, not something to hope for in the future! Gates give access, and we are to access heaven! If people want to know what heaven is like, they should be able to come to the church and get a taste! Thanksgiving, praise and worship are some of the keys to accessing heaven on earth. Ps 89:5 says that the heavens praise your wonders in the assembly of the saints. We know from Ps 22:3 that God inhabits the praises of His people. As we get lost in His glory heaven and earth truly become one!

Fourthly, in vs 12 we see it experienced angelic activity.
What was the purpose of the House of God being connected to heaven? So angels could freely ascend and descend. Angels ascend when they have completed an assignment and descend when they are on the way to carry out a supernatural task. There are a lot of angels hanging around getting very bored because the church is not taking enough risks and stepping out in faith! There are a lot of rusty ladders because they have not been used for a long time. There are no angels coming or going because we haven’t stepped out into the supernatural. As the Kingdom is being restored the revelation of the necessity of the angelic realm is being realised. In Jn 1:51 Jesus said to a group of people that they would see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man. We know that the church is His Body and He is the head. People are beginning to see and experience angelic activity in the church again. This is to be expected – it is normal church life! Somehow the devil has so deceived the church that they talk about demons far more than angels! We know why – angels perform and carry out task like miracles. We need them in the church!! Angels are simply ministering spirits sent to help all of us – Heb 1:14.

As the church returns to its original purpose expect change. Expect Angels. Expect supernatural activity. Expect His glory. Expect Him like never before! My faith is out for an invasion of heaven in our midst! It has been prophesied over us that we would be a gate of heaven. That we would have the capacity to see the Kingdom come in ways not yet seen in the church. That we would see realms of His glory not yet encountered. All of this makes me very hungry for more of Him. I say “Bring it on Jesus; we want to taste more of You and experience more of heaven!”

There is nothing we have to do to become sons; it is by birth, not by behavior. Our fundamental identity then as a believer is that of a son. For those not familiar with Greek, the word for son, ‘huios,’ does not have male only connotations as it does in English and many other languages. It is emphasizing the relationship, not gender. In Greek you can have male and female sons of God. The good news is that we don’t have to strive to become sons – God makes it so easy for us by sending the very Spirit of His Son into our hearts (Gal 4:6) – how amazing is that.

As God is restoring the Gospel of the Kingdom (the ultimate sign of the end times – Matt 24:14) it is bringing a fresh emphasis of the need for every believer to rediscover their identity as sons. If the devil can rob us of our identity as sons, he can rob us of our dominion authority. The first test Jesus faced was that of Sonship. In Matt 3:17 the Father declared Jesus to be His son. It wasn’t long before the devil came to Him in Matt 4:3,6 and questioned His Sonship. He knew if he could get Jesus to doubt His Sonship he would have Him defeated. Fortunately Jesus passed the test! We can only be effective in our walk if we understand who we are. We first have to be ‘Human Beings’ before we become ‘Human Doings!’ We have been made in the image of our Heavenly Father – Gen 1:26 – we carry His DNA. He is our Father (Matt 6:9). Jesus said he would not leave us as orphans – Jn 14:18. There is a wonderful promise in 2 Cor 6:18 - “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

The parable of the Sower and the parable of the Weeds in Matt 13: is critical in understanding God’s process and purpose for Sonship. The difference between these two parables is this: In both parables the field is the same – it is the world. In both parables the sower is the same – it is Jesus. The difference in the two parables is the seed. In the first parable the seed is the word of God; in the second parable the seed is the sons of the kingdom. The seed that God uses for the great harvest on the earth is not the word of God but the sons of the Kingdom. The word comes to produce sonship so God can sow the sons. The Gospel of the Kingdom comes with the sowing of the sons, not the sowing of the word. In Church-centeredness there is the false belief that if we just sow the word (i.e. just preach on Sunday), the harvest will come in. But this is just religious and not God’s Kingdom pattern. One of the main purposes of the church is to raise sons (and daughters) so that the King can sow them. The greatest ambition we can have in life is to become Kingdom seed. There can be no better thing than to become seed in the great Sower’s hand so He can sow us – whether it is business, education, health, the arts etc. With the sowing of the seed, it is not a hierarchal thing that is necessary very visible – it is about influence.

Rom 8:19 says that creation is waiting in eager anticipation for the sons of God to be revealed. Creation is not waiting to go to Church, or for the anti-christ, or Judgment Day, but for the manifestation of God’s sons! To contextualize this we can be even more specific: Auckland (and New Zealand) is waiting for the sons of God (you and me!) to be revealed. The Kingdom will begin to manifest and the harvest in the city will begin to come in to join the family of God when the sons go out. The way Auckland will be taken for the Kingdom is when every son exercises their God-given dominion authority and begins to bring heaven to their sphere of influence. Sons carry tremendous authority – we have authority over every sickness and disease, sin, demons, death, situations, atmospheres, snakes and scorpions! Our call is to bring salvation healing, deliverance, freedom, justice wherever we go! Being a Son of the only true God has to be the most exciting thing on planet earth! And we have the help of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8) and the angels (Heb 1:14).

Only sons have an inheritance, not slaves! Rom 8:17 reveals we are co-heirs with Christ Himself! And our inheritance is the Kingdom – Matt 25:34. We will inherit the whole earth!!! Matt 5:5.

Let the sons of God arise to be earth-movers and heaven-shakers!
